Artist Statement:
In remembrance of the tragic events that unfolded at Chardon High School on February 27, 2012, this artwork features purple thistles, a poignant symbol chosen for its connection to the name "Chardon," which is French for "Thistle." These thistles, with their prickly stems and vibrant purple flowers, represent devotion, bravery, determination, and strength. The thistle is also a symbol of protection.
On a three square foot canvas, three purple thistle flowers serve as a solemn tribute to Daniel Parmertor, Russell King Jr., and Demetrius Hewlin, the three students who tragically lost their lives due to the events of that day. Set against a solemn black and red background, symbolizing the colors of Chardon High School.
