Of Ash and Archetype

Rationale: 

Of Ash and Archetype is a charcoal series exploring the symbolic power of female figures drawn from mythology, folklore, and literature—Eve, Lilith, Pandora, Rhiannon, and others whose stories have been told, twisted, silenced, and retold for generations. Created early in my career, these works became a space for me to examine how women have been cast as origin, threat, muse, and mystery—often all at once.

Through the raw and expressive medium of charcoal, I sought to reclaim these archetypes, illuminating their complexity, resilience, and agency. Each piece is steeped in symbolism, inviting viewers to reconsider these iconic women not as warnings or shadows—but as mirrors, guides, and flames that still burn in the collective imagination.
